Learn through shared stories about the successes and challenges of creating homes that reflect the way we live today. This is an exciting opportunity to engage with both the architects and clients behind two fascinating contemporary houses.

SPEAKERS

Sophie Bence and Shamus Mulcahy, directors of Hobart-based Bence Mulcahy, will present Mount Stuart Greenhouse alongside their client Bron Fitzgerald. This two-storey greenhouse-style glass extension, with a private suite contained in a floating box, satisfies a design brief that asked for a home “engulfed by the garden.”

Andrew Benn of Sydney-based Benn + Penna will present Balmain Rock alongside his client Vanessa Rock. Joint winner of the 2019 Houses Award: House in a Heritage Context, Balmain Rock is a compact 1860s sandstone cottage that presents a balance of new and old, with additions that respect the original quality of the home. A new concrete pavilion expands the house, offering a material juxtaposition that highlights the warmth of the existing sandstone.
